INTEGRATED SUPERVISOR, ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

Each hospital remains a separate corporation with its own Board of Directors and Foundation. An integrated Senior Team leads the two Hospitals, as well as Fairview Manor and Lanark County Paramedic Service which are operating divisions of AGH. Over 600 caring staff, physicians and midwives provide excellent primary, acute and long-term care to citizens of Lanark County, West Ottawa and Renfrew County.

Reporting to the Integrated Vice President of Corporate Support Services & Capital Projects, the Integrated Supervisor, Environmental Services is responsible for the planning, organization and supervision of the day-to-day operations of Environmental Services (Housekeeping/Laundry) at both hospital sites and the nursing home. The role will supervise all aspects of the housekeeping/laundry department, including the quality of services, patient/resident and staff safety, as well as efficient and cost effective utilization of resources.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement cleaning routines that ensure cleanliness throughout the Hospitals, nursing home and accompanying staffing schedules that are in compliance with the Collective Agreement. Includes task sheets, staff assignments, staff schedules for specific service areas, revision of master schedules, etc.
  • Monitor and ensure appropriate staffing are in place to meet organizations needs on a daily basis.
  • Monitor staff availability, identify any shifts that need to be filled on a daily basis, and replace staffing in accordance with the Collective Agreement and hospital and departmental procedures.
  • Review time sheets and ensure accuracy, and submission to payroll within timelines.
  • Ensure staff have the most up to date task sheets for each area/shift.
  • Complete quality audits for all areas on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure ongoing cleaning practices and service levels are maintained.
  • Purchase all supplies and ensure necessary equipment is available to perform routine and other ad hoc projects as assigned.
  • Arrange duties, prioritize work of the staff, and modify assignments when necessary.
  • Initiate and perform coaching/discipline with staff as required, in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
  • Monitor and manage staff issues/concerns, in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
  • Lead, coach, support and motivate a multi-functional team with regular updates provided to the V.P.
  • Attend Hospital CUPE Labour Management Meetings, and other committees as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with respective Collective Agreement and represent grievances as required, while promoting a positive labour relations environment.
  • Ability to work in a manner that is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety practices, policies and procedures of the organizations.
  • Knowledge of best practices for environmental cleaning, and laundry operations for prevention and control of infections – PIDAC and ORNAC.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (W.H.M.I.S.) and other relevant legislation.
  • Provide a work environment that is conducive to the organizations Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary training in Environmental Services Management or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ recent relevant supervisory experience, preferably in the healthcare sector.
  • Demonstrated supervisory knowledge of environmental/housekeeping/laundry department structures, procedures and standards would be beneficial.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, unionized environment, interpreting, understanding, scheduling and managing under a Collective Agreement.
  • Knowledge of, and recent related experience in, general environmental cleaning procedures.
  • Ability to perform duties within the physical demands of the work areas at both sites.
  • Ability to lead by example, to direct and evaluate cleaning activities.
  • Ability to supervise staff, performance management with appropriate follow up to ensure adherence to policies and procedures (i.e. health and safety, IPAC, infection control standards, departmental procedures).
  • Ability to train employees and instruct staff in the use of equipment and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications.
  • Strong ability to interact and work effectively with all levels in the organization.
  • Strong conflict leadership skills including the ability to handle difficult situations.
  • Excellent attention to detail is required to conduct quality assurance audits and inspections.
