POSITION: REGISTERED NURSE

DEPARTMENT: POST-ANAESTHESIA CARE UNT

STATUS: REGULAR PART TIME A 

SALARY: $34.24 - $49.02

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The registered nurse is responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families through application of specialized knowledge, skill and judgment, both in assessing health needs and in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.

The nine (9) bed PACU provides post anaesthetic care for adult and pediatric patients following any surgical or diagnostic procedure requiring anesthesia. The RN is responsible for the primary care of post-operative patients including phase 1 and 2 recovery.

 

HOURS:

Must be available for 7.50 hour day, night, weekend and statutory holiday tours, and other tours assigned by the hospital. On-call will be required in this position. In addition, the successful candidate must be available on a pre-determined basis for at least four (4) tours per bi-weekly pay period, and either one (1) weekend in two (2) or three (3) weekends in six (6). This position includes shifts in OPS and PACU.

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse, currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Two (2) years’ post-surgical or critical care nursing experience within the past three (3) years
  • PACU Certificate from a recognized institution preferred
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Certification in Critical Care Nursing with the Canadian Nurses Association.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Certification in Emergency Nursing with the Canadian Nurses Association.
  • Current BCLS certification required; ACLS is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to assess patient throughout the post-anesthesia stay including epidural, hemodynamic and cardiac monitoring
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member utilizing strong organizational, leadership, conflict resolution, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook email, Surginet, OneChart Powerchart)
  • Excellent performance and attendance record that is in alignment with STEGH values

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Maintain competencies to ensure they are relevant and up to date on a continuing basis
  • Maintain and continuously enhance competencies through continuous learning in order to base practice on knowledge and skills relevant to client health needs
