Job Description

Reporting directly to the Integrated Vice President of Patient Services & Chief Nursing Executive (CNE), the Manager of the Medical/Surgical Unit and Emergency Department is responsible for the supervision of employees including Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses and other personnel. Working in close cooperation with hospital administration, managers, all levels of nursing staff, health care professionals, patients, families, external agencies and organizations, and various internal and external committees, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the education, training and certification of staff in relation to the skills required to provide evidenced-based care to patients.

  • Effectively able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), patient and employee safety practices, and policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Ability to contribute to a work environment that is conducive to the organizations Workplace Violence and Harassment policy.
  • A minimum of five (5) years clinical and two (2) years supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • B.Sc.N. degree (preferred or in progress).
  • Member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario as well as hold membership in an appropriate association which reflects current trends in the applicable clinical area(s).
  • Proficiency in software applications including use of databases, web-based tools, Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other relevant work-related technologies.
  • Familiarity with the Standards of Accreditation and the Canadian Council of Accreditation, Canadian Nurses Code of Ethics, and the Canadian Nurses Association Standards for Nursing Administration.
