Registered Nurse

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families through application of specialized knowledge, skill and judgment, both in assessing health needs and in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.

The 50 bed Acute Medical Unit cares for patients with a wide variety of medical diagnoses. A multi-disciplinary team approach is used to deliver quality health care to our patients.

HOURS:
Must be available for 7.50 and 11.25-hour day, night, weekend and statutory holiday tours, and other tours assigned by the hospital. In addition, the successful candidate must be available on a pre-determined basis for at least four (4) tours per bi-weekly pay period, and either one (1) weekend in two (2) or three (3) weekends in six (6).

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse, currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Previous one (1) year Acute Medical Care experience within the last three (3) years preferred
  • Current BCLS required
  • Ability to assess changing situations quickly and respond accordingly
  • Proven ability to work independently utilizing strong organizational, leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Proven assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation skills related to acute medical nursing
  • Continuing education in heart & stroke preferred
  • Continuing education in geriatric nursing preferred
  • Palliative Care Fundamentals (Level 1) preferred
  • Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) and P.I.E.C.E.S certification preferred
  • Safe Management certification preferred
  • Basic computer skills (Cerner, Outlook, OneChart)
  • Excellent attendance and performance record.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Maintain competencies to ensure they are relevant and up to date on a continuing basis
  • Maintain and continuously enhance competencies through continuous learning in order to base practice on knowledge and skills relevant to client health needs
  • Reflect on competencies in relation to changes occurring in the surrounding society and health environment in order to acquire and develop new competencies on an ongoing basis
  • Responsibility for educational support for competent nursing practice is shared among individual nurses, professional nursing organizations, employers, education institutions and governments as they make decisions that affect the common goal of quality care
  • Foster a culture of patient and staff safety guided by STEGH’s Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work.
