POSITION: Registered Practical Nurse

UNIT: Acute Medicine Unit

STATUS: Regular Part Time

SALARY: $30.92 - $31.26

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Acute Medical Unit is a 50 bed unit caring for patients with a wide variety of medical diagnoses. A collaborative team approach is used to deliver quality health care to our patients.

The RPN provides direct care to assigned patients and practices independently when the patient’s condition is less complex such that the outcome is predictable. The RPN collaborates with the Registered Nurse in patient situations that are beyond the RPN scope of practice .

HOURS:
Must be available for 11.25 and 7.5 hour tours, and other tours as assigned by the hospital, 24 hour rotation, seven (7) days per week. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to meet the non-availability standards listed in the OPSEU Service Collective Agreement and be available for short notice relief coverage.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Practical Nurse, currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario practicing at full scope.
  • Preference will be given to those with a minimum of one (1) year of acute care medical unit nursing experience within the last three (3) years.
  • Current BCLS Certification required
  • Palliative Care Fundamentals (Level 1) Certification is a definite asset.
  • Recent experience in physical assessments, IV medication administration, administration of blood and blood products, catheterization, chest and respiratory assessment with the ability to demonstrate competencies;
  • Thorough understanding and commitment to Patient and Family Centered Care principles and ability to use in practice.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, and conflict resolution skills and able to work through conflicts and differences in a respectful manner.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the highest level of communication skills and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to patient and staff safety.
  • Ability to adapt and work within a constantly changing environment.
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Cerner, etc.)
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Exhibits a performance record that reflects STEGH’s values.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work. Any candidate entering the facility to attend an interview will be required to provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status. To be considered fully immunized, individuals need to have received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days earlier than the date they are arriving to an interview or to begin work at STEGH.
