Description
Reporting to the President and CEO, and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Human Resources (HR) will be a catalyst for positive change, fueling the passion, engagement, and dedication of all Lake of the Woods District Hospital team members and stakeholders. This dynamic leadership position will be pivotal in embodying the mission and values in every action and ensuring the successful execution of a Human Resources Strategy aligned with the hospital strategy. The Director of HR will be responsible for leading a diverse and impactful portfolio which promotes and advances LWDH’S vision to provide extraordinary care for every patient, guiding inclusive practices, and undertaking various strategic initiatives. The portfolio includes Labour & Employee Relations; Compensation & Benefits; Organizational and Leader Development; Occupational Health and Safety, Employee Wellbeing; Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging; Volunteer Services; and Staffing. The Director of HR will have a strategic mandate to advance a high-performance, team-based culture at LWDH and enable a strong customer service orientation across all programs/departments.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations or a related field. Master’s Degree an asset
- Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) Designation (or in the process of) preferred.
- 10 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of HR policies, procedures, and employment-related legislation, including the Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Employment Standards Act, Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act, and Public Service Labour Relations Transition Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) etc.
- Strong knowledge of legal principles in Labour and Employee Relations, covering collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, discipline, performance management, and attendance management. Essential experience as a spokesperson in contract negotiations, mediation, and arbitration
- Experience in the public sector and healthcare environment is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of current HR trends, employment legislation, and best practices in the industry
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Proven expertise in strategic planning and problem-solving
- Experienced user of technology including MS Office, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), electronic scheduling systems, and human resource information systems (HRIS)
- Strong customer service orientation, sensitive to client issues and understanding of importance of diplomacy and confidentiality
- Demonstrates high emotional intelligence and the ability to tactfully and effectively negotiate and navigate potentially contentious and sensitive matters within the HR portfolio
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize operational needs in a fast-paced environment
- Class G drivers license, access to a reliable vehicle, and ability to travel to attend off site hospital locations and engagements as required
