Current Rate of Pay: Min $42.91- Max $53.63

Current Shifts: Mon - Fri, 8 hour shifts

Position Summary:

Are you a strategic thinker and natural problem solver with a passion for ensuring safety and readiness in dynamic environments? Guelph General Hospital is excited to offer a unique opportunity to shape and build our Emergency Management and Preparedness Program in this newly created role as Emergency Preparedness Specialist

Reporting to the Director of Facilities, in this role, you will leverage your leadership skills to coordinate across departments and with external partners, fostering relationships that strengthen our ability to respond effectively to emergencies. Your ability to adapt quickly, make sound decisions under pressure, and motivate others will be essential as you design and deliver engaging training programs, conduct impactful drills, and act as a trusted advisor during real-time incidents.

As the designated Fire Marshal, you’ll ensure fire safety protocols are in place and implemented, while your innovative mindset and attention to detail will drive compliance with provincial and federal standards. Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Incident Management System (IMS) certification
  • Certification in emergency management (e.g., Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Associate Emergency Manager (AEM)) preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and experience with emergency management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead emergency preparedness initiatives and foster hospital-wide engagement.
  • Proven leadership in the development and delivery of staff training and education programs.
  • Leverages data, tools and technology to optimize the interpretation and usability of information.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and with external agencies.
  • Demonstrates ability to exert influence, advise and guide leaders, supporting their needs
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working across departments and with external partners, ensuring smooth coordination during emergencies.
  • Skilled in assessing risks and making critical decisions during emergency situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey emergency procedures and ensure staff readiness.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement in resolving work problems; resolves routine problems in a timely manner, considers different points of view, opinion or data to take the best course of action.
