Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Design, implement, and oversee financial planning and reporting cycles, ensuring compliance with Ministry of Health Reporting Standards through the establishment of robust financial controls, audits, reporting formats, and budgets.
- Serve as the primary lead for reconciliations, variance explanations, cash flow management, and promptly notify the Manager of any identified discrepancies or issues.
- Manage monthly general ledger maintenance and reconciliation activities to ensure accuracy and adherence to financial reporting requirements. Lead the preparation and posting of journal entries for month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring completeness, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and internal audit standards.
- Prepare and review monthly financial packages, schedules, and reconciliations of major balance sheet accounts, providing variance analysis and commentary for management review.
- Monitor performance metrics to proactively identify risks and opportunities, providing insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, operating budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections by gathering and analyzing program statistics and financial trends.
- Develop and maintain statistical and financial models to capture current resource utilization trends and their potential impacts, including journalizing month-end activities.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of audit working papers, respond to auditor requests, and ensure compliance with Ministry and GAAP reporting requirements.
- Validate payroll and accounts payable allocations for accuracy and completeness, ensuring consistency with budget and reporting requirements.
- Assist in the design, documentation, and maintenance of effective internal controls over financial reporting, supporting audit readiness and process improvement.
- Collaborate with management to validate financial information and provide contextual insights to facilitate a clear understanding of financial results. Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal departments and external partners to support timely and accurate reporting.
- Conduct financial analysis related to ongoing operations and support ad hoc reporting and special projects as assigned by senior leadership.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data in compliance with hospital policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to a safe and respectful workplace by acting in alignment with GBGH’s values and Code of Conduct.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting, preferably within a healthcare or not-for-profit environment.
- Professional Accounting Designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) preferred.
- Strong understanding of Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO) and/or Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
- Knowledge of Ministry of Health funding models, MIS/OHRS standards, and hospital reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze complex financial data from multiple sources (financial, statistical, and Ministry datasets) to support decision-making.
- Proven experience developing budgets, forecasts, variance analysis, and financial models to inform strategic and operational planning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communicator with the ability to clearly present financial insights to leaders and stakeholders, influencing decisions through data-driven recommendations.
- Demonstrated collaboration skills with internal departments, external partners, and multi-disciplinary teams to achieve shared goals.
- Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with comfort learning and using financial systems and reporting software.
