THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) to join our dynamic and interdisciplinary team. This pivotal role involves utilizing advanced practical and theoretical knowledge to perform and oversee complex laboratory procedures, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and reliability in test results. The Senior MLT will play a crucial role in guiding and mentoring technical staff, optimizing laboratory operations, and maintaining stringent quality control standards. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

Education and Experience

  • The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies:

    • Active registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
    • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Certificate in Quality Management, or an equivalent qualification preferred.
    • Experience in Chemistry, Transfusion Services, Haematology, and Phlebotomy is preferred.
    • Proven record of satisfactory work performance and consistent attendance.

    Skills

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks for oneself and others effectively.
    • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) and strong interpersonal abilities.
    • Proficiency in basic computer and keyboarding skills; advanced computer skills are an asset.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
    • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
    • Comprehensive understanding of Quality Management, Quality Improvement, Quality Assurance, and Ontario Laboratory Accreditation standards.
    • Commitment to core values of inclusion, compassion, innovation, teamwork, and joy.
    • Understanding of and commitment to comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff, patient, and environmental safety, with regular participation in in-service sessions.

COMPENSATION

  • Hourly rate of pay $42.24-53.28, plus a generous vacation allotment in accordance with the OPSEU Collective Agreement.

HOURS OF WORK
Temporary Full Time. Shifts would include rotating days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the OPSEU collective agreement.

Our dedicated team serves a diverse catchment area, including Midland, Penetanguishene, Township of Tiny, Township of Tay, Christian Island, Georgian Bay Township, and Springwater Township. Our services span acute care, rehabilitation, complex continuing care, and Level 3 intensive care unit, with exciting plans on the horizon. We are in the early stages of expanding our capabilities, including a 2,500 sq ft expansion to our diagnostic imaging department to add MRI services for our community, a 50,000 sq ft expansion off our emergency department to offer 24 inpatient mental health beds and planning for a new state-of-the-art hospital facility.
